SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Old Home Cottage Cheese, the best-selling brand in Minnesota, was recently selected as the inaugural winner of the 2007 United States Championship Cheese Contest in the cottage cheese category.
This award is presented bi-annually by the non-profit Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA), and recognizes the best dairy products in more than 50 classes from across the United States. Over 1,158 cheese and butter entries were received this year with cheese makers and butter makers from 16 states earning top honors.
The cottage cheese category was added for the first time to this year’s 2007 awards and Old Home garnered the gold medal. “It’s a great testament to the uncompromising quality, consistency and superior taste that Old Home has upheld for over 80 years,” said Dave Holdsworth, Old Home’s VP of Sales and Marketing.
In 1981, after nearly a century of Wisconsin cheese competitions, WCMA offered its contest to cheese makers throughout the nation, and the United States Championship Cheese Contest was born. The contest is regarded as the largest and most respected in the industry. Complete results can be found at www.wischeesemakersassn.org.
